Meiri Shurui celebrated its 70th anniversary of plum wine production in 2022. In the same year, they launched their whiskey business, which led them to age their "Hyakunen Umeshu" (Centennial Plum Wine) in whiskey barrels. They borrowed whiskey barrels aged in Chichibu from the Chichibu Distillery, with whom they have had a long-standing relationship. This process resulted in a plum wine that expresses the vanilla aroma derived from the whiskey barrels and a complex, rich sweetness. This is a product born from a strong passion to explore the possibilities of both plum wine and whiskey barrels.

In 1952, Meiri Shurui's whisky production was started by Takazo Kato and a group of passionate craftsmen, but it was abandoned due to a fire. Since reacquiring the license in 2022, they have brought together all the techniques that have supported sake brewing at breweries nationwide, including yeast development and alcohol distillation, and this is the first release, a step forward with a view to the next few decades. This is a pure malt whisky from Takazo Distillery. It luxuriously uses "Mizunara casks," symbolic of Japanese whisky, for the first fill aging process. Utilizing the Japanese terroir, this whisky aims to achieve a balance between fruity sweetness and spiciness while exploring the possibilities of a truly unique Japanese whisky.
